Sourdough Crackers
So I did a thing and took a plunge .. and finally started sourdough again. And it’s worked!
I promised myself I wouldn’t try again until I had a better understanding of how sourdough works, how to troubleshoot, and how to use discard - no way I’m wasting our organic flour!
Crackers are what I began with and what I’m still in love with. I found a basic recipe, made some tweaks, tried some variations.. and wrote it out for myself. And now I’m sharing with you!
I don’t have a pic of my plain crackers yet, so here’s a picture of my cinnamon sugar crackers- I’ve also made delicious snickerdoodles, waffles, chocolate cake, and rustic artisan sourdough - all coming soon! I’ve followed recipes for some, and made it up as I go for others. So far they’ve all worked!
So here is a link to my fav savory crackers recipe.. and the recipe is also below. Enjoy!
Savory Sourdough Crackers
Ingredients:
- 300g starter
- 84g butter, melted and cooled
- 3g sea salt
- 6 tsp herbs (optional)
- Salt for top
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375° F
- Combine ingredients.
- Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
- Spread the batter evenly across the baking sheet. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt,
- Bake at 375° F for 10 min. Remove and score crackers.
- Return to oven and bake an additional 20-50 min. Monitor baking, remove from oven and take off any crackers that are done baking (around the edges) and continue to bake until done.
Notes:
- Plain crackers are our favorite.
- If using salted butter, salt the top lightly.
- Rosemary garlic crackers are amazing.
- Olive oil is not a recommendable sub for butter unfortunately.
