Souptember & some notes about ingredients

 Welcome to Souptember!

I personally have never heard of September before, so we're making it a thing! I got the idea when my daughter was talking about doing themed days when her Grandma visits next - Soup Saturday, Spa Sunday.. I realized we still don't have many soup recipes on our family favorites list, and we'll have to redo our list now that we're DF. After suggesting we try more soups this month, I randomly said "hey- Souptember! Let's make it a thing!" and so here we are (:

Just a friendly reminder - any DF recipe I post CAN be made with dairy ingredients! Most of the recipes are ones we already loved before going DF, and I had been nervous to make them dairy-free. But straight swapping ingredients has worked SO well! So, if you aren't dairy free just make these recipes (any on the blog) with the same measurements of cow's milk, butter, yogurt, sour cream, etc. And if you are DF, you can make my old recipes with DF ingredients! If I haven't posted an updated version, just know I may not have tried it with DF ingredients yet.. like the clam chowder. I'm still debating whether to try it DF!

Anyway, we have been brainstorming some ideas for Souptember. We want the recipe to be appealing and delicious to us, and also nourishing. With so many illnesses still going around (is it ever not sick season?) I love to use bone broths as the bases to our soups, to add an extra nutritious and gut-healthy element. I used to get so nauseous from any broth, and especially thought bone broth was disgusting (it can smell an awful lot like dog food), and the only way I could eat it was in a well-flavored soup. I tried using it to make rice and quinoa, but it never tasted right unless served with a flavorful & saucy meat on top. Then I realized how vital some extra salt and seasoning is to transforming bone broth and suddenly I loved it. It has a rich deep, hearty taste that just makes you feel good! If I list it in the ingredients, and you too are hesitant, please give it a fair try!

So far on our Souptember docket, we have Taco Verde Soup and Egg Drop Soup. I am still trying to decide how I feel about making the other ideas (time, taste, and tweaking must be considered), but I will keep you updated!
